What's the difference between a palmetto bug and a cockroach?
"Palmetto bug" is the polite South Carolina name for our large outdoor roaches, mostly American and smokybrown cockroaches, up to two inches long. They wander in from mulch, trees, and crawlspaces. German cockroaches are the small ones that infest kitchens and multiply indoors. The two problems are treated completely differently, which is why we identify before we treat.
Why do I have roaches if my house is clean?
In coastal South Carolina, roach pressure comes with the climate. Palmetto bugs live outdoors in every yard and only need a gap under a door or a dry spell to come inside.
